Jetset Bohemian: A 4 Part Series

Pretty

Part 1: Adornment

There’s a very good reason all things Bohemian never seem to go out of style (at least, not for very long!), and that is because they are timeless. From the original gypsies that migrated out of India westward to Romania and beyond a thousand years ago, Bohemians’ refusal to be tied down to anything, even a nation or home, has had a lasting romantic impression upon Western culture. Freedom to roam, wear or style your person/home/office with what pleases you, do what pleases you, and a rebellion of sorts against conservatism all come together to make boho so very attractive.

Ring stacking: a popular trend

Gypsies’ Indian roots may explain the abundance of crafted silver, semi-precious stone, and intricate beadwork that typifies bohemian jewellery. Indeed, much of the jewellery for sale today originates there. Especially pretty against tanned skin and a trend that has been around for some years now, white fingernails (thank you Helen Bense of gypsylovinlight.com ~ you can read more about her here: Wild Child) these rings and anklets work well with beachy colours like black, sand, ocean blues, and whites. Crochet, temporary henna and ethnic-inspired tattoos, and long beachy hair work into the style well too:

Time for pretty, flirty, summery temporary flash tattoos!

Pretty

It’s been a long, cold winter and here at designeyecandy we’re glad to be finally heading into summer down here in New Zealand.  Have been neglecting my blog but shall be tending to it more regularly going forward!

As the warm sunny days stretch in front of us I’m thinking of these beautiful, sexy metallic flash tattoos I bought a year ago to begin selling as a side business but got too busy to attend to. This year feels like the right year however so they are about to go on sale!

Flirty, feminine, and very pretty, these easy to apply and very long lasting jewellery-inspired tattoos come off whenever you want them to with baby oil (or any kind of oil), and are water and sun proof.  Perfect for days at music festivals, tropical getaways, beaching it, or just for times you want a little flirty and sweet bling to accompany you on your day to day. They are *HUGE* overseas – search #flashtats or #flashtattoos on Instagram, etc. Seen on The Bachelor and in Vogue, even Beyoncé has been snapped wearing them.

Although it’s only weeks until the first day of spring, our cold snap continues, driving people to bundle up in their homes, snuggling under duvets while watching movies, thick socks on and the fireplace crackling, or perhaps a fin heater nearby.

I’m currently under an old down duvet given to me by my mother when she could ill afford it, and hence it is very special to me. The dogs are under a furry throw – I decided to tough it out and not get the heater going. And the thing that really helps me while away these dark winter nights is thoughts of summer days soon arriving, and beautiful images from new blogs and instagram accounts I have found.

I’m really excited about a new trend, called ‘flash tattoos’ – generally jewellery inspired temporary tattoos that you can add to your arms, feet, between your shoulderblades. They are fun, flirty, sexy, and go well with current boho summer trends flashing their way through the northern hemisphere.

Pretty bohemian jewellery abounds the blogosphere, too – silver rings with chunky semi-precious stones stacked upon multiple fingers, tiny beaded bracelets and chains. They go well with the ripped and faded denim skinny jeans, white cotton shirts, halters, and maxis, and my current fave trend right now, the open-weave chunky knit cardigan.

The photos above are from my current favourite blog and instagram feed, gypsylovinlight. That is in fact her in the photos. Here is a woman who, according to her ‘about me’ description, has battled depression and other trials but now finds solace and great fulfilment in gathering and styling beautiful collections of jewellery, summer boho clothing, hair, and often, flash tattoos. She has tens of thousands of followers on instagram but still takes the time to answer and talk to people chatting with her on her posts. I love it when people get ‘big’ but don’t forget the little people!
